Follow me. [And he moves as Mewpac tries to crawl up onto his shoulder, leading them to a larger booth/table in a corner further away from the door so the kitties have less of a chance of bolting.] This is good. It gives them room to stretch out and it's far away from the exit so we can catch them if we have to. You can set her down and see how she likes it.

[Luna gave the escaping Mewpac a little grin over John's shoulder, and then examined the spot he had picked.]

Alright.

[After a few seconds, she set the little black and white kitten down on the table. It mewed up at her curiously, then turned to start sniffing around the surface of the table curiously.]

[Little claws cling into John's sweater as Mewpac hauls herself up onto his shoulder, examining both the table, John's face and staring at the other kitten for a moment. She seems to recognize the area at least as other-dad's work and so instead she turns all four eyes toward Luna and mews.]

You name yours yet? Since it is pretty clear she's not leaving anytime soon.

[Luna turns at the mew, reaching a hand up so the kitten on John's shoulder can sniff her. On the table, her kitten sniffs her way right into a plastic toy and knocks herself down with a startled little meow.]

Nah. Haven't thought of a name I like yet.

[He tries not to laugh and jostle Mewpac, but he moves to push the toy for Luna's cat and see if it moves after it. Mewpac on the other hand crawls forward and gently bats at Luna's hand before sniffing at it and deeming her worthy.]

To be honest I probably would have named her something else, but Dave liked Mewpac and she won't reply to anything else. Names are really important. It's weird, they can pretty much change everything.

[The kitten does indeed chase the toy, once she manages to get back on her feet, pouncing on it.]

...The four eyes thing is cute. But kinda weird.

[Once she was worthy, she scritched the kitten on the ears.]

[Cool, cat trade. Mewpac's leaning into Luna's hand and purring and John's using his free hand to bat the toy around for the other kitten to pounce on.]

She is my cat and I am still trying to get used to it. Sometimes I forget like when she's asleep but if she's staring at me with all of her eyes it's way harder. After a while though people seem to forget about it.

I guess you'd get used to anything eventually.

[She is going to try and reach up and take the cat from his shoulder and hold it up wrapped around the middle, rear legs dangling as she peers into it's four eyes.]

[Her own kitten chases the toy, but then suddenly pounces on John's hand instead, viciously and harmlessly attacking his thumb.]

"Anything" might be a bit of a stretch, Luna. There are some things I am sure neither of us would get used to. [While John's busy thumbwrestling Luna's kitten and letting the small creature bat his hand around, Mewpac willingly goes from John's shoulder to Luna's hands before reaching up with a paw to boop her nose.

Mewpac is used to being carried around by a certain Strider so she has zero qualms with being picked up.]

Oh, I don't know...

[Luna giggled softly at the nose boop, shifting her grip to one arm so she can boop her back.]

I think people really can get used to anything. You just have to...do it slowly. So they don't notice.

[Probably a dark attitude for a thirteen year old...]

[He doesn't outwardly express it, but yeah, that's a little disturbing for a thirteen year old girl and it's sort of sad. Mewpac continues more or less making this into a game with Luna while purring loudly from her place in the girl's hands and John's idly idly moves to pet Luna's kitten once it gets tired of attacking his hand.

Still. He knows a few people who have that kind of mindset and it's not good for anybody.]

Think that counts for good things as much as not so good things?

Mm.

[Her kitten did get bored, until the petting started, then she rolled over and started batting at him.]

It's probably good? Since it means we can adapt and stuff, right? But I mean.

[Another little giggle as she bats back again, and then leans forward to nuzzle her nose against the kitten. Woah. Four eyes so close.]

People will abuse it for bad things, they always do.

[John's hand is occupied by a kitten but one of the waiters comes by with a drink menu and he takes it with his other hand to glance over. He doesn't seem to mind multitasking.]

I think adapting is the most important thing a person can do. [Mewpac blinks all four of her eyes instead.] But at the same time...people cannot use it to excuse shitty behavior either, you know? That is the part I do not understand about people.

Well I didn't say it was an excuse. Just a thing they do.

[Still all said very casually. She boops the kitten again after the eye blink, and then turns and sets her down on the table to see how she'll react to her other kitten, who is preoccupied with John's hand still.]

So what do you do about those people? [He continues wiggling his fingers for the kitten to play with even as he looks up from the menu.] Also you're kind of young for coffee, but how do you feel about hot chocolate?

[chaoticwhimsy]

I don't do anything about them. [She smirked.]

Aaaand hot chocolate. If you're paying. Already had coffee today.

[windeity]

Sometimes the world just sucks. [But he nods since yes, he'll pay since it's never a bad idea to be kind to people so he gestures for one of the members of the waitstaff to come over so he can place an order.] They make really good coffee drinks here but I am interested in their other stuff, too.

[chaoticwhimsy]

I can't really have more than one cup of coffee a day it makes me kind of...[She snickered.] Kind of wired.

[Luna you're already kind of wired.]

But it can be fun.

[Luna's kitten finally notices Mewpac and rolls back onto her feet, slowly approaching the other kitten.]

You'll eventually get used to having more than one cup a day. It is practically a requirement for growing up. [He glances at the kittens then and Mewpac sits patiently on the table, tail flicking back and forth playfully while she waits for Luna's kitten to approach. When she gets close enough, Mewpac lifts a paw to bat at the kitten's head without actually attacking.]

They seem to be doing okay.

[chaoticwhimsy]

Maybe. I've got way more energy than I need most of the time anyway. After nine AM at least.

[Morning were just the worst.]

Yeah...I was worried they'd fight or something...

[Her own kitten froze at the face bap, then lifted her hand to bap Mewpac right back softly.]

Or fight less...uh...

[Okay this was kind of adorable.]

I envy that. Wait until you hit college and then talk to me about energy. [No John's just exhausted for other reasons. He can't help but laugh a little as Mewpac meows plaintively and immediately moves to bat at something on the table for Luna's kitten to chase after.]

They're both still little and Mewpac's a spoiled weirdo. I doubt they'd fight unless they had reasons to fight and they're both pretty safe for now.

[Luna's kitten immediately shot after the batted thing, tackling it into a roll.]

Mine's not spoiled. Well. [A little smile.] Not yet.

Especially not after all the shots they made her get.

[And off they go.]

Shots? Like vaccines you mean so you can keep her?

[chaoticwhimsy]

Yeah...since she was a stray and I couldn't find her mom or anything they did this crazy deep examination and then gave her like, ten shots.

[She had not been a happy kitten.]

[windeity]

Probably for the best. You don't know what these guys can pick up on the streets. [Though now he's staring at Mewpac.] ...man I did not think about the upkeep of a cat. [But alas. The hot chocolate comes by for the two of them and John tosses out a casual "thanks" before pushing one of the mugs across the table to her.]

But at least you're doing your best to look after her. Cats live for a pretty long time, too, so you're kind of stuck with a friend for a while.
