Well, this wasn't how Freya expected to be spending her time. But hell, whatever she needed to do. She wouldn't lie; it was smart for Lucy to send ambassadors.

It wasn't hard to find out which school Luna went to. The hard part was catching sight of her, and following the stray to her usual venues. That's what took Freya a while, in her increasingly dwindling spare time, and somehow without getting the police called on her by nosy parents.

Then it was a matter of bringing Minako along. The senior ambassador to all things Takada, apparently.

Freya tapped on the top of Luna's head with a finger to get her attention, her other hand clutching a take-out bag from one of those popular fast-food-sit-down hybrid cheeseburger places. Food, especially for teenagers, was often the best peace offering.

"Hey."

Minako hangs back just a few feet away behind Freya, visible but far enough back that she isn't crowding the girl. She offers a small smile as well, with her own offering of a few thick slices of plastic wrapped pumpkin bread in hand.

"Mind if we sit with you, Luna?"

She really hopes Luna won't run for it, not after all the trouble Freya went through to track her down. Whatever knack she has for speaking with Takadas won't work if the Takada doesn't actually want to listen.

Luna gave a start at the tap on her head, nearly jumping off the bench until she saw who it was. Huh? Her expression was one mostly of surprise, peering up at Freya and her...bag of fast food. Okay, so this was a bribe of some kind. Hm. "Hey."

Aaand then Minako was there too. Okay, so a bribe of some kind probably involving her sister. Great. Her expression soured a bit, but after a few seconds she shrugged.

"Sure, whatever. It's not my bench." At least she didn't run off yet.

Freya wasted no time plopping herself on the other end of the bench, giving Minako the opportunity to sit between them. It was her stage, now.

"Hungry?"

Minako wonders if one of them on each side of Luna wouldn't have been better-- so Luna could turn to Freya if she were feeling too overwhelmed by Minako. But with the decision made, Minako settles in between them, setting the pumpkin bread on the bench for Luna to take when she wants it.

"Freya said take out would be best, even though I wanted to cook you something myself..." She pouts briefly at this, but then leans back into the back of the bench. "But I guess cheeseburgers would be more satisfying, in the end."

Luna's grey eyes flicked between the women, then the fast food bag, then the...pumpkin bread?...then back.

"Sure." She finally said after a few seconds, pausing to stuff her phone into the pocket of her hoodie. "I'm never gonna say not to free food."

They were clearly up to something, but she'd wait until after she had their food before she pointed that out.

Freya fishes out one of said cheeseburgers, passing it over her roommate with an amused noise. That sounds like a Takada motto to her: never say no to free food.

"When are burgers not satisfying?"

As if to punctuate the point, she draws out a second burger, this one for herself.

Minako passes the cheeseburger over to Luna, sticking a childish tongue out at Freya.

"When the hamburger to grease ratio is way off. But I'll trust your judgement on how good this place is."

And then a gesture to Luna.

"Dig in."

Luna had a feeling Freya was trying to be clever, giving the burgers to Minako and herself but not Luna. She knew that trick, really, she'd seen it used on her before, and was about to just ask what she had to do to get one when Minako handed it over without any fuss.

Huh.

"...Thanks," she said as she took it, leaving it in the wrapped for a moment though, as she leaned forward to look at both women.

"Sooooo...what's the deal here?"

And here, Freya just glances at Minako as she unwraps her own burger and starts to eat. The diplomat gets the opening statement, not the hammer.

A glance back to Freya, and then a little breath out. Here goes nothing.

"Seeing the both of us here, I'm sure you already know, but-- we wanted to talk with you about Lucy. She was hoping to reconcile with you, after what happened the other day."

Of course that was it. Luna didn't say anything though, not until she'd finished unwrapping her burger and took a bite. There. They couldn't take it back now.

"Uh huh," she said as she chewed, but swallowed before she said anything else. "You mean when she grabbed me and shook me like I was some kind of misbehaving doll?"

That part.

"That's the bit." Freya contributed casually. "She's like that with just about everybody. It's not just you."

Even if Luna wasn't helping.

[complementing]

"She was getting frustrated, wanting to look after you but wanting to defend us, too." A glance to Luna. "You probably already know that she has a hard time expressing herself properly, right? So...please don't blame her."

Luna just looked so skeptical at that, even somehow while also taking a bite of her burger. She had clearly practiced her skeptical face over the years.

Chew chew chew swallow. "'A hard time expressing yourself' is having trouble finding the words to say something, not grabbing someone with your magic hand and shaking them."

"Not mutually exclusive ideas," Freya chimes in from her end. "We're talkin' about a lady arguably less well-adjusted than some cacti. Don't know how much you're around her, but she's got a hard time doin' anything properly with other people."

Unless it involved beating them in the face with a baseball bat, but that wasn't very helpful. "Felt awful about it afterward. You should've seen her sulking about."

"She's sulking more than usual, even."

Minako looks thoughtfully off into the distance, trying to figure out how to word this.

"She's a very...reactive person, and the way her vectors respond to her unconscious thoughts doesn't usually help her. But I think she did manage to express something to you properly. The fact that she invited you to come over to our apartment whenever you needed to-- that must've took a lot of effort on her part to say to you. She really wanted you to be able to rely on her. That's the Lucy we want you to try and get to know."

"Haven't been around her in years, really. Since she got taken away." They'd shared one foster home for a few months, that was it.

Luna took another bite of her cheeseburger, chewing as Minako talked. Another swallow.

"So, what, she wants me to stop avoiding her so she can apologies?" Luna almost sounded amused. "Maybe she should've worked harder at finding me, then."

Instead of sending her posse.

Freya makes an amused snort around a small mouthful of burger. It's not hard to follow the line of thought to the unsaid bit.

"Look, just 'cause the girl's better now doesn't mean she still doesn't need a clean-up crew. It's a baby steps thing. We've got her using her words; that's something. Just gotta teach her to walk, now."

She couldn't not pass up the opportunity to compare Lucy to a toddler. As fond as Freya's come to be of her, Lucy is... taxing, sometimes. And teaching a young woman how to properly express herself isn't exactly where Freya expected to be at this point in life.

Minako sighs a bit. She's gotten much less of Lucy's ornery moods than Freya has, so she can't blame her roommate for blowing off a bit of steam. But still, right now they're trying to convince Luna to talk with Lucy, not turn her away from it...

"In the end, it's your decision whether or not you want to see her again. Yes, she could've gone about this more properly, and yes, she might not be an ideal sister right now. But if you ask the two of us? She's trying, she wants to do better, and spending time with you might be the nudge in the right direction for her." A small lift of her shoulders. "Maybe for both of you."

Luna knew everything they were saying made sense. She didn't want it to, because she still wanted to be mad. Or she'd gotten used to being mad, she wasn't really sure. It had almost become a bit of a game to disappear when she spotted Lucy looking for her?

Which was probably pretty mean, now that she thought about.

She let out a slow huff then took another bite of her burger, her expression distant and thoughtful, before she turned to the two of them.

"...If I say yes, are there french fries in that bag?"

"Can't say there are. There is another burger."

Well. It was supposed to be for Lucy. If that's what it took to get Luna to agree to this mess, then she'd just go buy the youngest roommate another.

Or hell, go buy Luna fries. They're what, two dollars?

Minako lets out a mildly amused sound, getting up and stretching a bit.

"If you say yes, I can buy you fries and a milkshake."

"Who can eat two burgers?" She was a growing girl but not growing that much, Freya. But she leaned back as if she really had to think about this.

"Fries and a milkshake, huh..." She took a thoughtful bite of her burger, chewed, swallowed.

"Might be enough. Maybe." How badly did they want her to do this anyway....

Well, Freya could eat two burgers. Possibly three. Look, she spent a lot of energy in a week.

She snorts quietly. "Got downgraded from a yes to a maybe. Better stop while you're ahead, Mina."
