I'm not going to walk. But I'll see you soon, then.
[ And she unceremoniously hangs up. ..........Shijima is so aces at this "ally" thing, you have no idea. She isn't even really certain what she's looking for, except something north outside of the city, presumably easy enough to spot. And Lumina.
She didn't explain what she meant by "not going to walk", but eventually a white kite wings down into cover nearby. A little later, Shijima emerges, slinking out with her hair mussed and a neutral expression. ]
[Lumina is not hard to spot, really. Nestled between some hills and trees a little ways off the road is a sprawling ranch, and the chaos child can be seen standing outside of the front gate. All six of her imps are there, hoisting what looks like a heavy sign up to hang on the front. It's painted in bright colors, and reads 'Gran Pulse Chocobo Ranch' with a picture of a pink chocobo and a big green planet in the corner.]
[Her black chocobo, Chaos, spots Shijima first and warks an alert, and Lumina spins around, grinning wildly.]
[ Well, no, she can read the sign. All the same - she's staring at the chocobo itself, though the tone Shijima used was hardly one of disgust. It is, rather, pure and undisguised curiosity as she trots forward.
It's catlike, the way she tilts her head and stares. ]
[Lumina looks so pleased at Shijima's curiosity, skipping over to join her as she stares at Chaos. Chaos, to his credit, just leans his head down to stare right back, then 'warks' at her.]
You wouldn't have, there are only four of them in the whoooole world. But there'll be more soon.
[ Or do...something else of interest, although Shijima actually tends to like animals. She can generally understand them, in the way that beasts understand one another, and they seem to flock to her when she wears her human shape.
Now she looks at Chaos and listens to the "wark" for some sense of what he means. Bird-speak is familiar. ]
Yeah. They haven't yet though. I have two more, they're yellow, they're in the stables...
[Chaos's wark is mostly a curiosity thing, much like she is staring at him, he is staring at her trying to figure out what she is. She doesn't smell right, after all!]
Well. So people can ride them! Or fight with them. I think they can learn magic. [But she hasn't really bothered looking into it.]
And just so there are more!
[What? She's twelve. This is basically her version of ponies.]
You can ride them? [ That actually does bring about a new note of interest. ] Do they fly?
[ Even as she speaks, Shijima holds out her hand to Chaos, almost absently. She's used to animals being intrigued by her scent. She's a cat, even if she's not currently shaped like one, and she's felt that curiosity before as well, scenting things that aren't what they appear to be.
Lumina still has the acrid smell of chaos, but it isn't one Shijima minds. ]
I've never heard of a bird learning magic. Though I knew one who learned ninja arts.
Yeah, that's kind of what they're for. We don't have horses on Gran Pulse. [Which is good because horses are stupid.] But they don't fly or anything. They're just fast.
[Chaos leans in to sniff her hand twice, then leans his head up all the way and just goes back to staring at her.]
Well, they could back home. I mean, a long time ago. I haven't...[She hesitates.] I don't know. It didn't seem important?
I've only ridden horses a few times. Birds seem like they would be more reliable.
[ or she's biased... ]
I suppose you have time to find out. About the magic. I'm certain people would be interested in mounts that are fast and also magical? [ Humans seem to like collecting animals, anyway. Shijima herself has never before considered doing such a thing. ] If you intend to raise them in order to...sell? Rent out?
They are way more reliable. [Yes she's also biased.]
I don't know. Uhm. I'm gonna ask the queen for more of them? If I get enough I guess I could start selling the babies? [She pauses.] I'm gonna give a few away too!
Oh? So you have plans for them already. [ Humans do like to give one another things, though. Shijima is well aware of this quirk of theirs, and finds it interesting. Her host family had given her a bunch of toys, but hadn't expected anything in return.
It was strange. ]
I don't know much about business. Just what I observe. But some sort of renting situation may be profitable, since you only get paid once if you sell, but more often if you...rent?
[ A shrug. ]
This project of yours will take time, either way. Some here do not seem to wish to make long-term plans. But you do?
For a couple of them. Once they lay some eggs. [This last bit is a little grumbly, because she's had two of them together for two months so far and nothing.]
Yeah but renting sounds like a lot of work. [She smirks, but it fades a little as Shijima keeps talking, and eventually the pink haired girl shrugs.]
Sure. I mean, I guess I understand what they're thinking, cause they want to go home, but...uh. I can't. So this place is all I've got.
Maybe they're waiting for spring. [ Birds do dumb-ass things like that.
Shijima watches Lumina, curious; she remembers the vague mentions of chaos from their first conversation, but still. ]
I don't think it's a bad thing. Making plans. I never do it myself, but in your shoes, I suppose I would. [ Shijima doesn't want to make plans. Be attached. It'd make it hard, someday, to die. Lumina's not smiling as much now, though, so she changes the topic. ]
I suppose it depends on if you wanna hang around this world, or go home. [She shrugs, waving her arms from side to side.]
I'm gonna give one to Ariadne, 'cause she really likes Chaos. And I'm gonna give one to Alice so she stops riding around on that stupid horse. [That one is never going to happen.]
That doesn't matter to me. [ Maybe it does. But it's nothing to do with her goal. ] As long as I'm here, I won't worry about getting there.
[ But she's already admitted she needs to look for someone at the feast. For all that she hates attachments, Shijima has a few more than she'd ever want to be called on. ]
I've never met either of those people. Are they from our court?
Hmm. [Lumina studies her for a minute, trying to decide what she thinks of that answer.]
Yup. Ariadne is the baroness of that big forest south of the castle gloomy, and Alice is...mm. She's Alice. [Lumina isn't sure how else to describe the girl. Oh wait.]
Oh, another of those spire people? One of the vampires I know has one, too. [ Apparently spires are candy. And she supposes that Beatrix has a spire. It's weird how many people she's been meeting and bothering to remember.
Well, it's a little different than home. There's no reason to keep secrets about her nature. ]
I can't say I'd want a place to look after. All I really want is a sunny window to sleep by. Who needs an entire spire for that?
[ A lie. All she really wants is to die. But in the meantime, she'll settle for places to nap and curiosities satisfied. ]
